Proverbs – Encouragement for Better Living – part 1

On Sunday September 2nd, 2018, Pastor Eric preached part one of the series :
“Proverbs – Encouragement for Better Living”

The series will take us into the book of Proverbs, and over the next four weeks, we will receive practical direction on how we can live better lives.

On Sunday we were given 3 keys that we can use to help us increase and acquire wisdom:

1). Seeking: have faith to receive, and prioritize the NEED to gain wisdom. Proverbs 2: 3-6 “indeed, if you call out for insight and cry aloud for understanding, and if you look for it as for silver and search for it as for hidden treasure, then you will understand the fear of the Lord and find the knowledge of God.”

2). Hearing: be open to hearing, especially if it will help you grow. Have humility to hear when the need to learn is present. Proverbs 1:5 “let the wise listen and add to their learning, and let the discerning get guidance.” There’s a reason we have 2 ears and 1 mouth, listening is more important.

3). Fearing: Proverbs 1:7 “The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge”. Fear doesn’t mean you are trembling with fear hiding from God. It means we are in awe by God and we want to live our lives in such a way that honours Him for Who He is! We don’t just want to be hearers of God’s word, we want to be doers! Not out of fear, but out of reverence and love for Him. Our “awe” of Him makes us live our lives in such a way that we turn away from what is evil. Proverbs 16:6 “Through love and faithfulness sin is atoned for; through the fear of the Lord evil is avoided.

Part two of this series will be filled with many “life bettering” strategies that will presented in a way that is fresh and filled with God’s truths.
