On Good Friday, April 2nd , 2021, Pastor Chris, through his message titled Jeopardy, spoke on the meaning of Jesus’ death on the cross. The Bible says that since we were born sinners, all of us have become unclean and our righteous acts are nothing but filthy rags. (Isaiah 64:6) We were all destined for hell, but God dealt with it: He sent his one and only Son to die on the cross for our sins. He died in our place. Jesus’ blood cleansed us from all inequity and made us holy, so we could become children of God.

Ephesians 2:1-3 states:

As for you, you were dead in your transgressions and sins, in which you used to live when you followed the ways of this world and of the ruler of the kingdom of the air, the spirit who is now at work in those who are disobedient. All of us also lived among them at one time, gratifying the cravings of our flesh and following its desires and thoughts. Like the rest, we were by nature deserving of wrath.

As sinners, we were objects of God’s wrath. God cannot tolerate sin. Someone had to die for our sins, so God took His wrath out on Jesus, who was the perfect sacrifice, in order to allow us to go to heaven. Jesus took the wrath of God for you and me, so we would not need to be subject to it. Through Jesus’s death, an absolute gift, we have been glorified. If we accepted Jesus as our Saviour, we are now righteous because of what Jesus did. In Hebrews 10:1, we read:

For by one sacrifice he has made perfect forever those who are being made holy.

Now being holy, we can approach God’s throne with confidence, because we have been made right
with God.
