This covenant, established thousands of years ago, is not just history but a living reality for those who are in Christ. Let’s explore how this inheritance transforms our lives and what it means to walk in the blessings of Abraham.

1. The Covenant with Abraham: A Promise That Reaches Us Today

God’s covenant with Abraham was not just an ordinary promise. It was a divine guarantee, an eternal agreement made with a man of faith. This promise was threefold:

• Abraham would become a great nation.
• He would be blessed abundantly and be a blessing to others.
• His name would be renowned for generations to come.

But the covenant went further. God promised that all nations on earth would be blessed through Abraham. This ultimate blessing came through Jesus Christ, who was born through Abraham’s lineage. Through Jesus, the blessings of Abraham now extend to every believer, regardless of nationality, ethnicity, or background. The Apostle Paul, in Galatians 3:7-14, emphasizes that it is faith, not lineage or works of the law, that makes us heirs of Abraham. If you are in Christ, you are part of this covenant. It is no longer limited to the Jewish people—it now includes Gentiles, meaning all who believe in Jesus can partake in the blessings promised to Abraham. Paul writes, “If you belong to Christ, then you are Abraham’s seed, and heirs according to the promise” (Galatians 3:29). This truth is revolutionary: by faith, we inherit the blessings of Abraham, including spiritual empowerment, God’s favor, and the assurance of His promises.

2. What It Means to Be an Heir of Abraham

Being an heir of Abraham is more than a title—it is a life-changing reality. Pastor Eric outlined three essential truths about this inheritance:

A. The Promise is Irrevocable

God’s promises to Abraham—and to us through Christ—are unshakable and eternal. Romans 11:29 affirms, “God’s gifts and His call are irrevocable.” Unlike human promises, which can be broken or forgotten, God’s covenant is rooted in His faithfulness. If you are in Christ, the blessings promised to Abraham flow to you. These blessings:

• Reassure you in times of doubt.
• Protect you from spiritual harm.
• Empower you to walk in victory.

One powerful illustration Pastor Eric shared was the story of Myra Clark, a woman who fought for nearly 57 years to claim her rightful inheritance. Despite opposition, the court ruled that her inheritance was irrevocable. Similarly, your inheritance in Christ is guaranteed by God’s promises. No opposition, no force of darkness, and no circumstance can revoke what God has declared over your life.

B. We Are Justified by Faith, Not Works

To be an heir of Abraham means that we are declared righteous before God—not because of our works, but because of our faith in Christ. Pastor Eric explained that just as Abraham was made right with God through faith (Genesis 15:6), so too are believers justified by their trust in God’s promises. Galatians 3:10-11 warns against relying on the works of the Mosaic law for justification, as no one can perfectly fulfill the law. Instead, Christ redeemed us from the curse of the law by becoming a curse for us (Galatians 3:13).This is the beauty of the gospel: it’s not about what we do, but about what Christ has already done. By grace, through faith, we are made righteous before God.

C. We Inherit Spiritual Blessings

As heirs of Abraham, we receive spiritual blessings that transform our lives. Ephesians 1:3 declares, “God has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places in Christ.” These blessings include:

• Being part of God’s family: Through Christ, we are adopted as children of God, making us co-heirs with Christ (Romans 8:17).
• Freedom from curses: In Christ, you are no longer under the curse of the law. No curse, whether spiritual or generational, can stand against the blessings of God.
• Empowerment to bless others: Just as Abraham was blessed to be a blessing, believers are called to share the love of Christ, serve others, and advance God’s kingdom.

3. Faith: The Key to Unlocking Your Inheritance

Faith is the foundation of our inheritance in Christ. Without faith, it is impossible to please God or access His promises (Hebrews 11:6). Abraham’s life demonstrates the power of faith:

• He trusted God’s promise to make him a father of nations, even when it seemed impossible.
• He obeyed God’s call to leave his homeland, not knowing where he was going.
• He believed in God’s provision, even when asked to sacrifice his son Isaac.

Faith allows us to:

• Trust God’s timing when life doesn’t make sense.
• Stand firm in trials, knowing that God is faithful.
• Access supernatural blessings, including peace, joy, and strength.

Pastor Eric reminded the congregation that faith is not optional—it is the key that unlocks every promise of God. The enemy often attacks our faith with doubt and fear, but the shield of faith quenches every fiery dart of the enemy (Ephesians 6:16).

4. The Blessings of Abraham’s Covenant

The blessings of Abraham’s covenant are both spiritual and practical. Genesis 12:2-3 outlines these blessings:

1. A Great Nation
   Through Abraham’s descendants, the nation of Israel was established, and the church—the global family of God—was born. This includes people from every tribe, tongue, and nation who place their faith in Christ.

2. Blessings and Protection
   God promised to bless Abraham and protect him. Similarly, those who are in Christ are under God’s divine protection. As Pastor Eric declared, “No one can curse what God has blessed.”

3. A Great Name
   Abraham’s name is honored across Judaism, Christianity, and Islam. Likewise, believers are called to live lives that reflect God’s glory, using their influence to bless others and advance His kingdom.

4. Being a Blessing to Others
   Believers are called to be conduits of God’s blessings, sharing the gospel, serving their communities, and loving others. The ultimate blessing is leading others to Christ, fulfilling the promise that all nations will be blessed through Abraham’s seed.

5. Living as an Heir of Abraham

To walk in the inheritance of faith, believers must embrace their identity in Christ. Pastor Eric urged the congregation to:

• Declare God’s promises over their lives with confidence.
• Reject fear and doubt, knowing that their inheritance is secure.
• Be a blessing to others by sharing the love of Christ.

He concluded with a call to action: lead someone to Christ. As heirs of Abraham, we are blessed to be a blessing. Let us use our inheritance to impact the world for God’s glory.
