The Wedding of the Lamp- revelation 19

This past Valentine’s Day weekend, Pastor Eric delivered an inspiring sermon on “The Wedding of the Lamb,” based on Revelation 19. He reminded us that the greatest love story ever told is not found in a romance novel or a Hollywood movie. It’s found in the pages of Scripture, and it culminates in the most extraordinary event in heaven: The Wedding of the Lamb. This divine event is a celebration of the eternal union between Jesus Christ, the Bridegroom, and His Bride, the Church. It is a moment of unspeakable joy, worship, and blessing, and Pastor Eric encouraged us to prepare for this glorious day because it is closer than we think.

Leonard Ravenhill once said,

We are so close to the marriage of the Lamb that I am starting to hear the cutlery.

Pastor Eric echoed this sentiment, urging us all to reflect on our readiness for the greatest wedding celebration of all time.

What is the Wedding of the Lamb?

The Wedding of the Lamb is described in Revelation 19:6-9, where John writes:

Then I heard what sounded like a great multitude, like the roar of rushing waters and like loud peals of thunder, shouting: ‘Hallelujah! For our Lord God Almighty reigns. Let us rejoice and be glad and give him glory! For the wedding of the Lamb has come, and his bride has made herself ready. Fine linen, bright and clean, was given her to wear.’ (Fine linen stands for the righteous acts of God’s holy people.) Then the angel said to me, ‘Write this: Blessed are those who are invited to the wedding supper of the Lamb! (Revelation 19:6-9, NIV)

This passage gives us a glimpse into a heavenly event where Jesus, the Lamb of God, is united with His Bride, the Church, in an eternal covenant of love. It is an event of cosmic significance, and Pastor Eric highlighted four key aspects of this celebration that reveal its beauty, importance, and relevance to our lives today.

1. The Wedding of the Lamb Will Take Place in Heaven

The first truth Pastor Eric pointed out is that the Wedding of the Lamb will happen in heaven. This means it will occur before the second coming of Christ, after the Church has been raptured and brought into the presence of Jesus.

The Two Judgments

Before the wedding takes place, believers will stand before the Judgment Seat of Christ, also known as the Bema Seat or the Day of Rewards. This is not a judgment for salvation but for rewards based on the works we have done in faith. Pastor Eric called this event “Heaven’s Oscars,” where believers are rewarded for how they used their time, talents, resources, and opportunities for God’s glory. In contrast, the Great White Throne Judgment is for unbelievers, and Pastor Eric stressed that this is not a judgment anyone would want to face. This is why it is so important to make peace with God through Jesus Christ now, ensuring we are part of the heavenly celebration.

2. A Vibrant Atmosphere of Praise and Worship

The Wedding of the Lamb will be filled with loud, heartfelt, and joyful praise. Revelation 19 depicts a scene where a great multitude shouts, “Hallelujah!” in celebration of God’s salvation, glory, power, and justice.

What Does Hallelujah Mean?

“Hallelujah” comes from two Hebrew words: “Hallel,” meaning “to praise,” and “Yah,” a shortened form of Yahweh, the name of God. Together, it means “Praise the Lord.” This word is repeated four times in Revelation 19, emphasizing the joy and gratitude of heaven’s inhabitants.

The worship at the Wedding of the Lamb will involve believers from every nation, tribe, and tongue, as well as angels and Old Testament saints. It will be a collective roar, like rushing waters and peals of thunder, as everyone unites to exalt the name of the Lord. Pastor Eric reminded us that expressive worship is not about personality—it’s about revelation. When we see Jesus as He truly is, we cannot help but worship Him with all our heart, soul, mind, and strength. He encouraged us to view our Sunday worship services as a “dress rehearsal” for the Wedding of the Lamb, where praise will be loud, alive, and vibrant.

3. A Beautiful Bride

The Bride at the Wedding of the Lamb is described as radiant, pure, and clothed in fine linen, which represents the righteous deeds of the saints. Pastor Eric emphasized that this preparation is both a divine gift and a human responsibility.

Christ Prepares the Bride

Ephesians 5:25-27 tells us that Jesus loves His Bride, the Church, and gave Himself up for her to make her holy, cleansing her by the washing with water through the Word. He is actively preparing His Bride to be radiant, without stain, wrinkle, or blemish.

The Bride Prepares Herself

Revelation 19:7 says, “The Bride has made herself ready.” This preparation involves righteous deeds—acts of love, kindness, faithfulness, and service—that flow from a transformed heart. Pastor Eric shared practical examples of how believers can prepare themselves:

  • Serving others selflessly.
  • Showing kindness and patience in daily interactions.
  • Using their gifts and talents to glorify God.
  • Persevering in faith during difficult times.

The Bride’s preparation reflects her anticipation and excitement for the wedding. Pastor Eric challenged us to ask ourselves, “Am I preparing myself for that glorious day?”

One of the most beautiful aspects of the Wedding of the Lamb is the love of the Bridegroom, Jesus Christ, for His Bride. This love is relentless, sacrificial, and unwavering. Pastor Eric reminded us that God pursued us even when we were far from Him. He redeemed us, cleansed us, and entered into an unbreakable covenant with us through His sacrifice on the cross.

The Sacredness of Marriage

Pastor Eric explained that marriage is a sacred institution ordained by God to reflect His covenantal love for His people. Just as a bridegroom is committed to his bride, so God is committed to His Church. This commitment is not based on our performance but on His faithfulness. He will never leave or forsake us.

Blessed Are Those Who Are Invited

Revelation 19:9 declares, “Blessed are those who are invited to the wedding supper of the Lamb!” This includes both the Bride and the guests. Being part of this celebration is the ultimate privilege and joy for all believers. Pastor Eric urged us to accept the greatest wedding invitation of all time by placing our faith in Jesus Christ.

Are You Ready for the Wedding of the Lamb?

The Wedding of the Lamb is not just a future event—it’s a reality that should shape how we live today. We are encouraged to:

  1. Prepare Ourselves: Live lives of holiness, service, and love, reflecting the righteousness of Christ.
  2. Worship Passionately: Let our praise and worship be a reflection of the joy and gratitude in our hearts.
  3. Embrace God’s Love: Remember that we are God’s beloved Bride, the object of His joy and passion.
  4. Invite Others: Share the good news of Jesus Christ so that others may also be part of this heavenly celebration.
