Proverbs – Encouragement for better living (part 4)
Sunday September 23rd Pastor Eric concluded the series “Encouragement for Better Living”. The characteristic we learnt about in gaining wisdom was – Humility.
Humility is recognizing the NEED for God in our lives. Humility was identified as a “heart” attitude. We looked at 5 ways to cultivate Humility.
1). Recognize your own spiritual bankruptcy. We must AVOID justifying, comparing, measuring and excusing our sin. The Apostle Paul said “all have sinned”, therefore we MUST be proactive in recognizing it, and repenting from it. Dwight Moody wrote “The Bible will keep you from sin, or sin will keep you from the Bible”.
2). Do not be wise in your own eyes (Proverbs 3:7). Understanding the difference between knowledge and wisdom is important. Knowledge shows off, wisdom can be found within Humility.
3). Let others praise you: don’t be a self promoter. Proverbs 27:2.
4). Not fixated on self. Important to have our heart in a position of “Thy Glory” And not “my glory”. Matthew 23:12 “For those who exalt themselves will be humbled, and those who humble themselves will be exalted”.
5). Pray daily. This is essential to cultivate humility. We need to be quick to go to God First! Asking Him for help, being humble in knowing that without Him all things are impossible, but with Him, all things ARE possible.
